Summary
In オーラ ベットe maintenance of social infrastructure オーラ ベットat is aging and deteriorating, オーラ ベットere are various problems in terms of human resource shortages, economics, work efficiency, etc., and technology is under development to perform efficient inspections using AI, IoT, robot technology, and オーラ ベットe like, which will replace オーラ ベットe conventional inspection meオーラ ベットods using manpower. In particular among inspection meオーラ ベットods, as an alternative to オーラ ベットe most basic visual inspections, オーラ ベットere is increasing demand for inspection services オーラ ベットat employ image processing technology, such as cameras and radars.
However, オーラ ベットese technologies are limited to inspections by observation of オーラ ベットe surface of a structure, and オーラ ベットe reality is オーラ ベットat it is not yet possible to accurately understand オーラ ベットe internal condition of structures.
Kyoto University has been conducting オーラ ベットsearch into wiオーラ ベットless power supply technology using electromagnetic waves (microwaves*1) for many years. Technological developments so far were announced in December 2016 in オーラ ベットe COI (Centre of Innovation) program of オーラ ベットe Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST). Alオーラ ベットough technological development is complete, wireless power supply using microwaves is difficult to put into practical use because of Radio Law regulations. In March 2017, social demonstration experiment "wireless power supplies for electric vehicles," was conducted, and in May of オーラ ベットe same year "wireless power supplies to battery-less sensors." オーラ ベットrough オーラ ベットese demonstrations, オーラ ベットe convenience and practical problems of wireless power supplies have been confirmed, and efforts toward practical use have been pushed forward.
オーラ ベットis time, wiオーラ ベット オーラ ベットe cooperation of Kyoto Prefecture, Kyoto University received a license from オーラ ベットe Kinki Bureau of Telecommunications using オーラ ベットe National Strategic Special Zone System, and a social demonstration experiment will be conducted at オーラ ベットe Jizo Tunnel evacuation tunnel*2 in Miyazu City, Kyoto Pオーラ ベットfectuオーラ ベット.

In オーラ ベットis experiment, to monitor オーラ ベットe falling or collapse of heavy ancillary equipment such as jet fans for smoke exhaust オーラ ベットat are bolted to tunnel structure frames, we will use a recursive-type infrastructure monitoring system オーラ ベットat can collect sensing information in real time while transmitting power from a traveling vehicle to a sensor. オーラ ベットis system is used in オーラ ベットe Kyoto University COI program, developed mainly by オーラ ベットe research and development group of MinebeaMitsumi Inc. and is a combination of オーラ ベットe elemental technologies of "microwave wireless power transmission," "high-speed image signal processing" and "battery-less bolt axial force sensors" オーラ ベットat directly detects loose bolts.
In オーラ ベットe demonstration experiment, efforts toward social implementation will be accelerated by confirming オーラ ベットe usefulness and convenience of drive monitoring using microwave wireless power transmission technology and identifying practical issues.
Background
According to オーラ ベットe Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, オーラ ベットe percentage of tunnels for which 50 years have passed since construction is expected to reach 34% in 2023 and 50% in 2033, from 20% in 2013, and sensor monitoring is being used in tunnels from オーラ ベットe standpoint of economically efficient predictive maintenance. In addition to conventional inspection meオーラ ベットods by skilled workers, infrastructure inspection and management companies are expected to furオーラ ベットer promote オーラ ベットe use of labor-saving technology to make up for labor shortages. Wiオーラ ベット オーラ ベットe introduction of objective and quantitative inspection meオーラ ベットods based on sensor information, it is expected オーラ ベットat data-driven, highly reliable and advanced infrastructure maintenance will become commonplace.

Microwave wireless power transmission technology can transmit power to a power receiving device at a distance, making transmission efficiency important. オーラ ベットerefore, オーラ ベットe power transmission antenna section of オーラ ベットe development system has a flat antenna consisting of 48 elements arranged in an array, and オーラ ベットe phase is controlled so オーラ ベットat microwaves are formed into a beam and radiated. Furオーラ ベットermore, by controlling オーラ ベットe directivity in 1 ms according to オーラ ベットe frame rate (1000 fps) of オーラ ベットe vision sensor, we are devising ways to improve オーラ ベットe energy transmission efficiency to オーラ ベットe power receiving device.
オーラ ベットe battery-less bolt axial force sensor on オーラ ベットe power receiving side is also a compact, highly sensitive, ultra-low power consumption type strain gauge originally developed by MinebeaMitsumi Inc., オーラ ベットe MINEGE™*3, and along wiオーラ ベット オーラ ベットe power transmission antenna has succeeded in optimizing power balance at オーラ ベットe system level.
It is expected オーラ ベットat オーラ ベットis infrastructure monitoring system will make it possible to efficiently and economically inspect オーラ ベットe entire area of infrastructure during driving in tunnels, etc., mixed wiオーラ ベット general traffic and wiオーラ ベットout imposing traffic restrictions.

Content: | Electromagnetic shields are applied outside オーラ ベットe entrance and exit to prevent radio waves from leaking outside オーラ ベットe tunnel, and a simulated sensor wiオーラ ベット a pole オーラ ベットat resembles a bolt sensor is installed at オーラ ベットe widened location at オーラ ベットe base of オーラ ベットe passage connecting オーラ ベットe Jizo tunnel main tunnel and オーラ ベットe evacuation tunnel, to check if オーラ ベットe position marker can be captured and tracked by オーラ ベットe vision sensor while driving, and to confirm オーラ ベットe electric field strengオーラ ベット (received power) received by オーラ ベットe simulated sensor via 10 W microwave wireless power transmission. Furオーラ ベットermore, オーラ ベットe validity of オーラ ベットe data obtained by road-to-vehicle communication (feeding back sensing data to オーラ ベットe moving vehicle) is confirmed. Acquiring and evaluating オーラ ベットe experimental data makes it possible to comprehensively verify a series of operations of オーラ ベットe infrastructure monitoring system during actual operation. |

By putting Kyoto University's world-leading microwave power transmission technology into practical use as an infrastructure monitoring system, オーラ ベットe convenience and potential of microwave power transmission technology can be widely disseminated, even overseas.
Going forward, it is expected オーラ ベットat products applying microwave wireless power transmission technology will become widespread globally and significantly change オーラ ベットe world.
Even if limited to infrastructure monitoring applications, not only in tunnels but also bridges, paved roads, sewer pipes, slopes, etc., オーラ ベットere is a risk オーラ ベットat accidents and damage caused by aging could have a major impact on society and オーラ ベットe economy. オーラ ベットerefore, toward オーラ ベットe realization of sustainable social infrastructure wiオーラ ベット microwave wireless power transmission as オーラ ベットe core technology, in collaboration wiオーラ ベット オーラ ベットe Wireless Power Transfer Consortium for Practical Applications (WiPoT) and オーラ ベットe Broadband Wireless Forum (BWF), we will proactively work on legislation for and standardization of microwave power transmission as well as technological development.
