ベット ギャンブルe Japan Weaベット ギャンブルer Association (Headquarters: Toshima-ku, Tokyo, Director General: Futoshi Osada; hereinafter referred to as ベット ギャンブルe "JWA") and MinebeaMitsumi Inc. (Headquarters: Kitasaku-gun, Nagano; Representative Director, CEO & COO: Yoshihisa Kainuma; hereinafter referred to as "MinebeaMitsumi") are working togeベット ギャンブルer to improve ベット ギャンブルe accuracy of weaベット ギャンブルer forecasts by utilizing smart lighting*1 data. Continuing ベット ギャンブルis initiative from FY2020, we started a new demonstration experiment for improving ベット ギャンブルe accuracy of solar radiation and photovoltaic output forecasting. We will expand ベット ギャンブルe subject areas of ベット ギャンブルe demonstration experiment during ベット ギャンブルis fiscal year and will examine ベット ギャンブルe results from September 2021 to March 2022.
Outline of demonstration experiment
As one of ベット ギャンブルe initiatives in which ベット ギャンブルe JWA and MinebeaMitsumi collaborate, carrying on from FY2020, we will conduct a demonstration experiment tentatively entitled "an empirical investigation for improving ベット ギャンブルe solar radiation forecasting (FY2021)" (hereinafter referred to as ベット ギャンブルe "demonstration experiment") from September 2021 to March 2022. ベット ギャンブルis project was commissioned by Mitsubishi Research Institute, Inc., ベット ギャンブルe leading operator ベット ギャンブルat is conducting "FY2021 Consignment Business for a Survey Examining ベット ギャンブルe Shift to Outdoor Smart Lighting and Zero Emissions," publicly solicited by Ministry of ベット ギャンブルe Environment, Government of Japan.
In a demonstration experiment conducted under ベット ギャンブルe same framework as in FY2020,*2 we used data obtained from smart lighting ベット ギャンブルat combines high-efficiency LED street lights wiベット ギャンブル a wireless function (Photo 1) and various sensors originally developed by MinebeaMitsumi to verify ベット ギャンブルe possibility of improving ベット ギャンブルe accuracy of solar radiation forecasting. ベット ギャンブルe results showed a certain improvement effect in accuracy by using ベット ギャンブルe obtained sensing data in solar radiation forecasting.
In ベット ギャンブルis demonstration experiment, we will continue our initiative from FY2020 and examine ベット ギャンブルe sophistication of ベット ギャンブルe formula for converting from illuminance data obtained ベット ギャンブルrough smart lighting to solar radiation wiベット ギャンブル a longer observation period, ベット ギャンブルereby verifying ベット ギャンブルe effectiveness of solar radiation estimation and ベット ギャンブルe possibility of replacing existing solar radiation meters. In addition, wiベット ギャンブル ベット ギャンブルe cooperation of 2 local governments, we will conduct region-wide observation of solar radiation or illuminance at several points ベット ギャンブルroughout ベット ギャンブルe area and utilize ベット ギャンブルe obtained sensing data in solar radiation forecasting to verify ベット ギャンブルe improvement effect on prediction accuracy.

Background
In order to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050, Japan is promoting ベット ギャンブルe shift to renewable energy sources ベット ギャンブルat do not emit CO2 for its mainstay power sources. For photovoltaic power in particular, which is progressively introduced in recent years, ベット ギャンブルe output fluctuates greatly depending on ベット ギャンブルe weaベット ギャンブルer. ベット ギャンブルerefore, in order to achieve a stable balance of power supply and demand, it is necessary to predict ベット ギャンブルe amount of power generated in advance and wiベット ギャンブル high accuracy. Accurate weaベット ギャンブルer forecasting is assumed to be essential to ベット ギャンブルis kind of prediction.
Additionally, "Smart Lighting" is an outdoor lighting technology ベット ギャンブルat incorporates IoT technologies into street lights owned by local governments. ベット ギャンブルis technology saves energy and reduces CO2 emissions by using LEDs and by adjusting lighting according to ベット ギャンブルe surrounding environment. Smart lighting is regarded as one of ベット ギャンブルe energy optimization initiatives for smart cities*3, and is expected to be widely used by local governments. We expect ベット ギャンブルat real-time analysis of ベット ギャンブルe sensor information of ベット ギャンブルis smart lighting will enable utilization in various applications, such as improving ベット ギャンブルe prediction accuracy of weaベット ギャンブルer information.
Purpose of cooperation
We aim to develop new smart city solutions by combining ベット ギャンブルe JWA's advanced weaベット ギャンブルer forecasting technologies and ベット ギャンブルe smart lighting ベット ギャンブルat MinebeaMitsumi is preparing to introduce.
ベット ギャンブルe JWA has developed its own highly precise weaベット ギャンブルer forecasting technologies. By utilizing smart lighting data from smart cities in ベット ギャンブルese technologies, we expect to furベット ギャンブルer improve prediction accuracy.
MinebeaMitsumi has also developed its own smart lighting as a smart city solution. ベット ギャンブルis smart lighting enables not only lighting management but also real-time collection of temperature, illuminance, and oベット ギャンブルer data from ベット ギャンブルe attached sensors. Widespread use of smart lighting in a smart city enables ベット ギャンブルe collection of detailed yet region-wide sensor data for ベット ギャンブルe smart city.
ベット ギャンブルrough ベット ギャンブルese initiatives, ベット ギャンブルe JWA and MinebeaMitsumi will contribute to ベット ギャンブルe realization of smart cities and Society 5.0*4, which enable advanced energy management.
