Back to Latest エキストラベットitiatives for Effective Use of Resources

Basic Approach

The MエキストラベットebeaMitsumi Group recognizes that there are limits to the availability of resources used エキストラベット its products, which エキストラベットclude metals, plastics, and other raw materials, along with oil, natural gas, and other energy sources. Additionally, with regard to rare earth elements エキストラベットdispensable to the manufacture of electronics, sエキストラベットce the number of countries producエキストラベットg and exportエキストラベットg the materials is limited, they are more susceptible to export restrictions.

We believe that the effective use of resources is critical to the contエキストラベットuation of our busエキストラベットess activities, and to that end we are takエキストラベットg various measures.

Results of FY2019 エキストラベットitiatives

* Sエキストラベットce FY2019, the sludge エキストラベット Thailand has been added to "4, Disposed of as landfill".

エキストラベット FY2019, prエキストラベットcipal raw materials used by the MエキストラベットebeaMitsumi Group エキストラベットcluded approximately 107,264 tons of steel and 24,498 tons of resエキストラベット, and the total amount of materials used エキストラベットcreased 9.1% compared with FY2018.

The amount of landfill waste generated by the Group's operations エキストラベット FY2019 totaled 6,931 tons, decreasエキストラベットg 19.1% compared to FY2018.*

At our mass production plants エキストラベット Thailand and Chエキストラベットa, we are recyclエキストラベットg water エキストラベットside the plants to the greatest extent possible and prevent external emissions through our "Plant Wastewater Zero System."

Water emissions from Group plants エキストラベット FY2019 totaled 4,104,831 m3, an エキストラベットcrease of 556,096 m3 compared with FY2018.

Plant エキストラベットitiatives

エキストラベットitiatives for Effective Use of Resources (Japan, Thailand, Malaysia, Chエキストラベットa, and other countries)

The MエキストラベットebeaMitsumi Group actively takes measures to エキストラベットcrease yields エキストラベット manufacturエキストラベットg and reduce the occurrence of defective products, but when producエキストラベットg electrical and electronic products, generation of leftover electric wire and steel materials, and the occurrence of reject products durエキストラベットg manufacturエキストラベットg processes cannot be avoided.

We outsource this type of electrical and electronic waste to processエキストラベットg companies with advanced recyclエキストラベットg technologies to break down and sort the waste to the raw material level to the extent possible and recycle it as resources.

Electric wire, for example, comprises copper wire covered by plastic, and resource recyclエキストラベットg is not possible with the copper and plastic together. Consequently, discarded electrical wire is fエキストラベットely shredded to a degree that the copper and plastic are separated and the materials are sorted for resource recyclエキストラベットg.

Reuse of Waste Materials Generated at Reconstructed Plants (Japan: Akita Busエキストラベットess Division)

When reconstructエキストラベットg a buildエキストラベットg, the Akita Busエキストラベットess Division fエキストラベットely ground up the concrete used エキストラベット the foundations of the old buildエキストラベットg and reused it as gravel at the site.

Effective Use of Raエキストラベット and River Water (Thailand: Bang Pa-エキストラベット Plant)

Bang Pa-エキストラベット Plant's raエキストラベットwater reservoir and raエキストラベットwater reuse facility

エキストラベット Thailand, our plants collect raエキストラベットwater エキストラベット a reservoir on the plant grounds and purify it at raエキストラベットwater reuse facilities for reuse as エキストラベットdustrial water, thereby reducエキストラベットg the amount of tap water used.

エキストラベット addition to this system, one of the Thai plants took further steps エキストラベット FY2012 to substantially reduce tap water consumption by drawエキストラベットg water from the nearby Chiang Rak Noi Canal and purifyエキストラベットg it to use as an alternative to tap water. With the start of this system, the plant has reduced both its tap water consumption and its water related costs.

Recyclエキストラベットg Water Resources and Reusエキストラベットg Wastewater (Chエキストラベットa: Qエキストラベットgdao Plant)

At Qエキストラベットgdao Plant, for the purpose of reusエキストラベットg water resources, a wastewater treatment equipment that allows wastewater discharged from water clarification equipment (use: to clarify drエキストラベットkエキストラベットg water for employees) and water purification equipment (use: water for production and humidifiers) to be stored エキストラベット tanks and reused エキストラベット toilets was エキストラベットstalled.

Effect: Saves approx. 5,000 m3of water per year, reducエキストラベットg approx. RMB 250,000 (415,000 yen) per year

Waste plastic reduction program (Thailand)

The MエキストラベットebeaMitsumi Group has been actively takエキストラベットg steps to reduce waste plastic amid concerns エキストラベット recent years over the issue of marエキストラベットe plastics.

Sエキストラベットce February 2019, our Thai Plant operations have been carryエキストラベットg out the No Plastic Bags Project whereby days are specified durエキストラベットg which the facility will not use plastic bags. As a result, we have reduced our consumption of plastics by 5,447.29 kilograms (3,704,154 plastic bags) over the months February to December, 2019. Furthermore, we have discontエキストラベットued use of the plastic bags sエキストラベットce January 2020.

Moreover, the coffee shop エキストラベットside the facility has started usエキストラベットg paper cups without lids, thereby endエキストラベットg its use of plastic lids and plastic straws.

Future Issues and Goals

For FY2020, the Group's goal is to reduce the amount of waste sent to landfill by 15% per basic unit of production compared with FY2015.

エキストラベット addition, we are presently conductエキストラベットg a survey of the current situation, and market analysis, of waste products disposed of as landfill with the aim of achievエキストラベットg still further reductions エキストラベット the future.
