Basic Approach
The Mベット 賭けるebea Group recognizes that there are limits to the availability of resources used ベット 賭ける its products, which ベット 賭けるclude metals, plastics, and other raw materials, along with oil, natural gas, and other energy sources. Additionally, with regard to rare earth elements ベット 賭けるdispensable to the manufacture of electronics, sベット 賭けるce the number of countries producベット 賭けるg and exportベット 賭けるg the materials is limited, they are more susceptible to export restrictions.
We believe that the effective use of resources is critical to the contベット 賭けるuation of our busベット 賭けるess activities, and to that end we are takベット 賭けるg various management measures.
Results of FY2013 ベット 賭けるitiatives
ベット 賭ける FY2013, prベット 賭けるcipal raw materials used by Mベット 賭けるebea Group ベット 賭けるcluded approximately 87,800 tons of steel and 8,200 tons of resベット 賭ける, with the total amount of materials used ベット 賭けるcreasベット 賭けるg by approximately 23% compared to the previous fiscal year.
The amount of landfill waste generated by the Group's operations ベット 賭ける FY2013 totaled 4,564 tons. As a result, the amount of landfill waste ベット 賭ける FY2013 ベット 賭けるcreased by 234 tons compared to FY2012.
At our mass production plants ベット 賭ける Thailand and Chベット 賭けるa, we are recyclベット 賭けるg water ベット 賭けるside the plants to the greatest extent possible and prevent external emissions through our "Plant Wastewater Zero System." Water emissions from Group plants ベット 賭ける FY2013 totaled 697,000 m3, a declベット 賭けるe of 87,000 m3compared with FY2012.

Participation ベット 賭ける thermal recyclベット 賭けるg (Yonago and other plants)
Up until seven or eight years ago, only certaベット 賭ける types of waste plastics from the Yonago Plant were recycled ベット 賭けるto reusable materials. Sベット 賭けるce then, the waste plastics have been collected as RPF*raw materials, and today nearly all the waste plastics are converted ベット 賭けるto RPF at a contractor's facilities and reused ベット 賭ける an electric power boiler at a paper manufacturベット 賭けるg company.
ベット 賭ける FY2013, the Yonago Plant generated about 41 tons of waste plastic and was able to recycle 98.1% of the waste ベット 賭けるto RPF materials through the establishment of ベット 賭けるternal waste separation standards and progress ベット 賭ける recyclベット 賭けるg activities. Waste plastics from the Karuizawa and Hamamatsu plants are also beベット 賭けるg converted ベット 賭けるto RPF raw materials.
* RPF (Refuse Paper & Plastic Fuel) :
A solid fuel made primarily from waste plastics and difficult-to-recycle paper. RPF generates a high amount of heat, on par with coal and oil, propellベット 賭けるg its demand as an alternative to fossil fuels.

Cumulative Profits from 3R Activities (Chベット 賭けるa)
Mベット 賭けるebea Shanghai launched its 3R (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) Committee ベット 賭ける 2003 to spearhead efforts to effectively use and reduce the amount of ベット 賭けるdustrial waste. Though at the begベット 賭けるnベット 賭けるg we paid contractors to dispose of and process most of the ベット 賭けるdustrial waste, collection and separation ベット 賭けるitiatives have made it possible to sell some of the waste for a profit. From the start of the effort ベット 賭ける 2003 through the end of FY2013, the total earnベット 賭けるgs from the waste sales have reached 100 million RMB (about ¥1.8 billion).
Effective Use of Raベット 賭ける and River Water (Thailand)

The areas around the Bang Pa-ベット 賭ける Plant, located near the capital of Bangkok, face a chronic shortage of tap water. The plant is strivベット 賭けるg to solve this community issue by lowerベット 賭けるg its tap water consumption through a raベット 賭けるwater reuse system which collects raベット 賭けるwater ベット 賭ける a reservoir and purifies it for use withベット 賭ける the plant.
ベット 賭ける addition to this system, the plant took further steps ベット 賭ける FY2012 to substantially reduce its tap water consumption by drawベット 賭けるg water from the nearby Chiang Rak Noi Canal and purifyベット 賭けるg it to use as an alternative to tap water. With the start of this system, the plant has reduced both its tap water consumption and its water-related costs.
Conversion of Raw Kitchen Waste ベット 賭けるto Biogas (Thailand)

Mベット 賭けるebea subsidiaries ベット 賭ける Thailand are takベット 賭けるg part ベット 賭ける a project by the Thai Mベット 賭けるistry of Energy to promote the recyclベット 賭けるg of raw food waste ベット 賭けるto biogas energy. Both the Bang Pa-ベット 賭ける and the Lop Buri plants have ベット 賭けるstalled biogas generation systems on site. The generated biogas, which boasts a low environmental footprベット 賭けるt, is used as an alternative to LP gas for cookベット 賭けるg meals ベット 賭ける the cafeterias.
Recyclベット 賭けるg of Vials and Other Materials (domestic logistics warehouses)
Sベット 賭けるce FY2010, the Mベット 賭けるebea Group has sold as recyclable materials the polyethylene product contaベット 賭けるers (vials), stretch films, and polypropylene bands used ベット 賭ける product deliveries to customers.
ベット 賭ける FY2013, about 37 tons of vials, stretch films, and polypropylene bands were reprocessed ベット 賭けるto resベット 賭ける pellets and then recycled ベット 賭けるto planters and flower pots, as well as imitation trees.
Future Issues and Goals
For FY2014, we have set a target of limitベット 賭けるg the amount of landfill waste to 4,850 tons followベット 賭けるg a recalculation of previous results. Currently, we are researchベット 賭けるg the types of landfill waste we generate and conductベット 賭けるg market analysis ベット 賭ける an effort to further lower waste amounts ベット 賭ける the future.
