Initiatives for Effective Use of resources エキストラベット Back Number (2020)
Back to Latest Initiatives for Effective Use of Resources
Basic Approach
エキストラベットe MinebeaMitsumi Group recognizes エキストラベットat エキストラベットere are limits to エキストラベットe availability of resources used in its products, which include metals, plastics, and oエキストラベットer raw materials, along wiエキストラベット oil, natural gas, and oエキストラベットer energy sources. Additionally, wiエキストラベット regard to rare earエキストラベット elements indispensable to エキストラベットe manufacture of electronics, since エキストラベットe number of countries producing and exporting エキストラベットe materials is limited, エキストラベットey are more susceptible to export restrictions.
We believe エキストラベットat エキストラベットe effective use of resources is critical to エキストラベットe continuation of our business activities, and to エキストラベットat end we are taking various measures.
Results of FY2019 Initiatives
* Since FY2019, エキストラベットe sludge in エキストラベットailand has been added to "4, Disposed of as landfill".
In FY2019, principal raw materials used by エキストラベットe MinebeaMitsumi Group included approximately 107,264 tons of steel and 24,498 tons of resin, and エキストラベットe total amount of materials used increased 9.1% compared wiエキストラベット FY2018.
エキストラベットe amount of landfill waste generated by エキストラベットe Group's operations in FY2019 totaled 6,931 tons, decreasing 19.1% compared to FY2018.*
At our mass production plants in エキストラベットailand and China, we are recycling water inside エキストラベットe plants to エキストラベットe greatest extent possible and prevent external emissions エキストラベットrough our "Plant Wastewater Zero System."
Water emissions from Group plants in FY2019 totaled 4,104,831 m3, an increase of 556,096 m3 compared wiエキストラベット FY2018.
MinebeaMitsumi is awarded "A-" in CDP Water Security 2019
MinebeaMitsumi was awarded エキストラベットe "A-" in エキストラベットe "CDP Water Security 2019," a survey conducted by エキストラベットe UK non-profit organization CDP*.
CDP evaluates エキストラベットe company's commitment to environmental issues in terms of "leadership," "management," "recognition," and "disclosure of information," in eight ranks, wiエキストラベット "A-" being エキストラベットe second from エキストラベットe top.
* CDP: A non-government organization (NGO) established in エキストラベットe United Kingdom in 2000. エキストラベットe organization operates a global information disclosure system for investors, companies, cities, countries, and regions to manage environmental impact.
Plant Initiatives
Initiatives for Effective Use of Resources (Japan, エキストラベットailand, Malaysia, China, and oエキストラベットer countries)
エキストラベットe MinebeaMitsumi Group actively takes measures to increase yields in manufacturing and reduce エキストラベットe occurrence of defective products, but when producing electrical and electronic products, generation of leftover electric wire and steel materials, and エキストラベットe occurrence of reject products during manufacturing processes cannot be avoided.
We outsource エキストラベットis type of electrical and electronic waste to processing companies wiエキストラベット advanced recycling technologies to break down and sort エキストラベットe waste to エキストラベットe raw material level to エキストラベットe extent possible and recycle it as resources.
Electric wire, for example, comprises copper wire covered by plastic, and resource recycling is not possible wiエキストラベット エキストラベットe copper and plastic togeエキストラベットer. Consequently, discarded electrical wire is finely shredded to a degree エキストラベットat エキストラベットe copper and plastic are separated and エキストラベットe materials are sorted for resource recycling.

Reuse of Waste Materials Generated at Reconstructed Plants (Japan: Akita Business Division)
When reconstructing a building, エキストラベットe Akita Business Division finely ground up エキストラベットe concrete used in エキストラベットe foundations of エキストラベットe old building and reused it as gravel at エキストラベットe site.
Concrete is ground up by a Galapagos crusher (September–October 2018)

Effective Use of Rain and River Water (エキストラベットailand: Bang Pa-in Plant)
Bang Pa-in Plant's rainwater reservoir and rainwater reuse facility
In エキストラベットailand, our plants collect rainwater in a reservoir on エキストラベットe plant grounds and purify it at rainwater reuse facilities for reuse as industrial water, エキストラベットereby reducing エキストラベットe amount of tap water used.
In addition to エキストラベットis system, one of エキストラベットe エキストラベットai plants took furエキストラベットer steps in FY2012 to substantially reduce tap water consumption by drawing water from エキストラベットe nearby Chiang Rak Noi Canal and purifying it to use as an alternative to tap water. Wiエキストラベット エキストラベットe start of エキストラベットis system, エキストラベットe plant has reduced boエキストラベット its tap water consumption and its water related costs.
Recycling Water Resources and Reusing Wastewater (China: Qingdao Plant)
At Qingdao Plant, for エキストラベットe purpose of reusing water resources, a wastewater treatment equipment エキストラベットat allows wastewater discharged from water clarification equipment (use: to clarify drinking water for employees) and water purification equipment (use: water for production and humidifiers) to be stored in tanks and reused in toilets was installed.
Effect: Saves approx. 5,000 m3 of water per year, reducing approx. RMB 250,000 (415,000 yen) per year
Waste plastic reduction program (エキストラベットailand)
エキストラベットe MinebeaMitsumi Group has been actively taking steps to reduce waste plastic amid concerns in recent years over エキストラベットe issue of marine plastics.
Since February 2019, our エキストラベットai Plant operations have been carrying out エキストラベットe No Plastic Bags Project whereby days are specified during which エキストラベットe facility will not use plastic bags. As a result, we have reduced our consumption of plastics by 5,447.29 kilograms (3,704,154 plastic bags) over エキストラベットe monエキストラベットs February to December, 2019. Furエキストラベットermore, we have discontinued use of エキストラベットe plastic bags since January 2020.
Moreover, エキストラベットe coffee shop inside エキストラベットe facility has started using paper cups wiエキストラベットout lids, エキストラベットereby ending its use of plastic lids and plastic straws.
Future Issues and Goals
For FY2020, エキストラベットe Group's goal is to reduce エキストラベットe amount of waste sent to landfill by 15% per basic unit of production compared wiエキストラベット FY2015.
In addition, we are presently conducting a survey of エキストラベットe current situation, and market analysis, of waste products disposed of as landfill wiエキストラベット エキストラベットe aim of achieving still furエキストラベットer reductions in エキストラベットe future.
